We take our responsibilities seriously

AXA Assistance adheres to principles and practices that ensure we do business in a socially responsible manner by promoting sustainable development in our business.

We encourage our suppliers to be socially and environmentally responsible and encourage an open and ongoing dialogue with them on these issues.  We do not renew contracts with suppliers whose business practices are contrary to the principles and practices set out in the AXA Compliance and Ethics Guide.

Corporate responsibility

As part of AXA Assistance’s practice of sustainable development, we require that our business partners and suppliers observe the following three main ILO (International Labour Organization) principles and:

  • refrain from using, or allowing their suppliers and sub-contractors to use child labour (under 15 years of age) or forced labour
  • ensure that their staff enjoy safe and healthy working conditions, respecting individual and collective liberties
  • promote non-discrimination (sex, race, religion or political conviction) in their staff recruitment and management.

Social responsibility

Every year we take part in AXA Hearts in Action, an AXA Group social event. Every member of staff willing to support local charities and community services is given time to do so during the course of their working day.

We fully support all charitable actions that employees participate in on their individual initiatives including Red Nose Day. We also support a number of national and local charities.

Environmental responsibility

We continually review the environmental impact of our activities and seek ways to reduce our carbon footprint wherever possible. Among current initiatives we:

  • recycle all paper, cardboard boxes, paper cups, printer cartridges, cans and bottles
  • use non-sensitive waste paper to make note pads for the contact centre
  • purchase FSC paper (paper from sustainable forestry) and Fair-Trade coffee
  • have movement sensitive lighting and movement sensitive water flushing in toilets
  • encourage car sharing, and provide secure bike racks for cyclists
  • offer season ticket loans to encourage the use of public transport
  • purchase fuel efficient vehicles.

We report annually on energy, water and paper consumption and waste management, and are taking actions to meet reduction targets in each area that range from 2.5% to 5% over a three-year period.
